So this week was pretty amazing for HIV. And by amazing I mean took one step forward and two steps back. The FDA officially passed three things this week.

1) Gilead (the maker of my meds) got approval for a new pill called “Quad” that is the first 4 part medication for HIV treatment. Great news! It is more effective than anything on the market to date.

2) Oral HIV at home testing kits were approved. This is a terrible idea. Not only are oral swabs barely 85% accurate but image if someone who is 19 and alone in the midwest who commits suicide because of a false positive? #notacutelook

3) Truvada gets approval for prophylactic use. Another great in theory yet terrible idea. This will only lead to guy thinking that they are protected from HIV so why bother wearing condoms. Um no tiger. There are strains of HIV that are drug resistant and Truvada doesn’t work against those. SURPRISE!
